Winter’s Snow
ALL is desolate and cold
Mother Nature sleeps a deep sleep
Billowing white blankets cover everything
as bare trees stand defiant like sentries
over the barren dormant landscape
The dead weight of snow and ice test each limb
until the weakest yield, crack and fall
to its thudded doom
Living things one-step from a cryonic slumber
become shivering statues absorbing each gust of
winter’s ice cold breath
The sun will depart for
her long awaited solstice
giving way to the frigid abyss
of shadowy nothingness
